Building a New Space for Foster Care

Imagine a child you love being put into the foster care system.

Now imagine you only get to spend two hours visiting with them

Marcella Foundation funds helped Sierra Child and Family Services secure a new long-term space. Now you can help it feel more like home

Walls going up in the new Sierra Child & Family Services space in September 2023

The office was completely flooded

In April 2023, after the second highest snow year on record, South Lake Tahoe experienced significant flooding. Unfortunately, part of the office space where Sierra Child and Family has been for over 10 years was victim to flooding, which caused significant damage to our operations and leaves Sierra with less space than needed for the foreseeable future.

Time for a new location

Sierra is moving to a new location, which will be ideal for our staff and clients, but there is a significant one-time tenant improvement cost to outfit the space to be welcoming and inviting to serve our community for the long term. This one-time grant to fund tenant improvements puts Sierra on a long term sustainable path in a wonderful new space. It would also provide for improved biological family and foster youth visits with larger and more inviting and warm spaces for our local community during these special moments when they get to be together.

How can you help?

This project has just begun and there is still time to get involved. Sierra is currently accepting monetary donations and gift cards to put towards purchasing furniture, toys, and kitchen supplies needed for our new space. Check donations can be made out to Sierra Child and Family Services and mailed to 2580 Lake Tahoe Blvd, Suite B; South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150. Gift card preferences: Ross, TJ Maxx, Amazon, Target or VISA.

“With the Marcella Foundation’s support, we can create a space that is inviting, warm, welcoming and safe where we can provide these services for the long-term. Ultimately, this funding will increase our agency's capacity to nurture and health the most vulnerable children and families in our community.”
